Underage Drinking

Reducing underage drinking requires a community-based effort to monitor the activities of our youth and decrease their access to alcohol. The Village Code of Hawthorn Woods makes it unlawful for any person to host, permit, allow, or fail to take reasonable steps to prevent an event where minors consume or possess illicit drugs or alcohol.

It is important to note that a person who hosts an event does not have to be present at the gathering to be in violation - if your minor children have a party when you are not at home, you can still be charged in violation of this ordinance. Violators may be fined up to $750. The penalty for underage drinking is a fine of $200 and the minor will have their driving privileges suspended.
