Depending on the depth of snow, it can take six to 10 hours after the snow has stopped falling for all of the streets in the village to be cleared.

Snow clearing priorities are to clear the most traveled roads first and the least traveled roads last. This prioritization is designed to assure the maximum safety for the driving public.

The Department of Public Works treats for weeds in the islands four to five times per year. Re-mulching of the islands is done as needed and as time allows. Residents are encouraged to assist in the care for their neighborhood island.

No. Village Code 5-4-2-D requires all dogs to be leashed when off private property. The leash can not be longer than eight feet (8') in length.

Village Code 5-4-2-E-2 states that No owner of a dog shall permit such dog, by prolonged or loud barking, to disturb the peace and welfare of any person. Call the police when the violation is taking place and an officer will respond and issue citation(s) if warranted.

Yes, the Village does have its own deep municipal well. Water is provided through our management partner Aqua Illinois. Individual wells are also permitted by the Health Department where municipal water is not extended. A water line map is available at the Village Hall and at the link below. Yes. The Village of Hawthorn Woods has designated the Midlothian Road corridor as a Town Center. Sewer and water is available for immediate development. The Northern Planning area, known as Uptown, in the vicinity of Hawley and Gilmer Roads is designated as Business/Commercial. The zoning is in place for immediate development.

The Village has a full service Police Department, Public Works Department with ice and snow removal services, a Building Department, Finance Department, Parks and Recreation Department, and Communications Department. The Village of Hawthorn Woods has a wonderful park system with 8 neighborhood parks and 2 Regional Parks. We have an Aquatic Center with state of the art amenities and several gazebos and a Community Room available for parties or functions. Recreation programs, outdoor special events, and a fun Senior Program welcome your participation! The Village is serviced by a road network consisting of state, county and municipal streets. This makes getting around to fine dining, employment centers, and shopping easy and integrated. Elementary school district 95 Spencer Loomis and Middle School North and St. Matthew’s Lutheran Schools are located in the Village, and early childhood education centers/day care centers are located in town. The Foglia YMCA is nearby with year round sports and fitness opportunities. The Hawthorn Woods Country Club is a private golf course and residential community designed by Arnold Palmer. It has quickly gained fame as the host of the Illinois Open Championship Golf Event, sponsored by the PGA. This event is enjoyed by celebrities and spectators alike.
