Statewide Distracted Driving Awareness Week

Unfortunately, traffic fatalities are again on the rise in Illinois and safety experts say this is due in large part to distracted driving. To address this, the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police in partnership with AAA, will launch Distracted Driving Awareness Week from April 24-28, 2017. According to the National Safety Council, from 2010 to 2014, driver distraction involving cell phones resulted in 39 deaths and more than 6,000 crashes in Illinois. Using a cell phone while driving makes it four times as likely that you'll crash, either with handheld or hands-free devices. For your safety and those around you, please pay attention to the road and don't text and drive. For more information, contact the Hawthorn Woods Police Department at (847) 438-9050.
